Eta Devices increase operating time of smartphones

The market of mobile technology is growing rapidly, offering users more new features: however, in the pursuit of pixels and gigahertz very topical issue is the life of the smartphone on a single charge. This is made possible thanks to improving the design of the power amplifier signal, which is present in the communication devices and wasted about 65% of energy consumption. As stated by the researchers, their development will increase the amount of useful energy consumption by half from the current 30-35%, which, in theory, will allow smartphones to work twice as long.

Any modern smartphone is equipped with multiple signal amplifiers (on presentation of images are marked in red), each of which has a large number of transistors. The latter, in turn, works in two modes: standby and output signal when the application sends data. And if the gap activity all kind of clear, then the standby mode, in which the transistors are most of the time there is a situation when the incoming voltage is excessive. It is this excess is the main reason for the rapid "planting" the battery. The solution proposed by Joel and David - minimizing power supply, controlled by the so-called "electronic transmission", which adjusts the voltage of each transistor with analysis by a rate of 20 million times a second.It is expected that the technology that will significantly reduce the amount of power, the company Eta Devices will present at the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC), which will be held in Barcelona in February 2012.
